2026–in progress

Sports

Most of the sports pictures I make are of children — my own and other people’s — and those are not mine to publish. What is left when you take the faces out turns out to be the more interesting problem anyway.

These two were made in an hour at an empty track. The rider is present in both and identifiable in neither: once he is small enough, the subject stops being a person and becomes the place, and the place at a BMX track is an extraordinary piece of engineering that nobody looks at. Chained posts, tyre lines, the numbered lanes on the start hill, berms shaped by seasons of use.

Black and white for the same reason as the aviation work. The gear at a race is loud, and the moment you take the colour out of it what remains is the shape of the ground.

This project stays deliberately narrow. Anything that would identify a child does not go on this site.
